  • Essay Portion of the Quarterly As part of the department’s effort to assess your knowledge of our units in the first marking period, you will spend the duration of the class period responding to a single essay prompt. The prompt will cover either fiction, Animal Farm, or poetry.

  • “Song” pg. 114 As we did with “The Bells,” we will focus on literary elements with a graphic organizer, including the aim of simile and personification.

  • “The Creation” pg. 117 We will again discuss the aim of a simile. In addition, we will discuss the aim of a narrative poem.

  • “The Bells” (listen here) First, we will implement prereading strategies to prepare to read the poem. Pay attention–we’ll use these same strategies with every poem we read. Next, we will use a four-square graphic organizer to analyze the bell type, mood, and literary devices in each of the four parts of the poem. Make sure that you can explain onomatopoeia, repetition, and aim for “The Bells.”
