Dear Students and Parents/Guardians:

Hello, and welcome to the new school year! This site will provide invaluable resources and links to assist us throughout the school year. All of this information is also available in class, so students who do not have access to the Internet outside of school will not be penalized.

What can you find here? You can review a copy of our course syllabus and tentative calendar, check assignments and class information, and correspond with me outside of normal school hours. To find out what is going on in class and to access classroom materials (handouts, PowerPoints, and more), click on the appropriate month on the right-hand side of this page–e.g., 1: August 2008.

Students: If you have a question and did not have an opportunity to talk to me in school, then it is your responsibility to leave comments on this site or to email me: Jamie.Lee@cr.k12.de.us.

Parents: If you would like to discuss your child’s progress with me, please email me at Jamie.Lee@cr.k12.de.us or call the school to leave a message for me at (302) 697-2161, ext. 3105.

I will check this blog for comments and review my email from Monday through Thursday until about 9:00 PM; I may also review the blog and my email occasionally on Friday evenings and weekends.

The Links Page on the right of this page will guide you to some useful resources, including our school home page, some grammar and literature resources, and an online dictionary. (This dictionary is my favorite because it enables you to listen to audio pronunciations of words.)

Remember, this web site will be our main classroom resource outside of school. I suggest that you bookmark it and check back frequently to view updates.

Most sincerely,
~Miss Lee~

schoolsupplies.JPGFor those of you who are gearing up to purchase school supplies, the following information should help you.

  • I strongly suggest that you use an agenda book/daily planner to keep track of your assignments in my class, as well your other classes. You will be given an agenda book during homeroom within the first few days of school–as a bonus, it has a plethora of tips to help you study, become organized, and more. You may also purchase your own agenda book. Please note that one section of the back white board in the room is sectioned off and contains a list of class activities and assignments for about a ten-day time span. The other side of that same white board always lists the daily activities/lessons, what is due, and what is homework. Use these resources to your advantage!
  • You must always have a reading book or other reading material with you.  If you finish before every other student, you must read silently.  Talking is never an option.  If you do not bring reading material, I will provide you with it.
  • I do not care what writing utensils are used as long as what you write is legible.
    • I recommend that you stick with basic pen colors (blue, black, red, etc.) or pencils.
    • Erasable pens are fine.
    • I highly recommend that you bring highlighters to class to help you with critical reading.
  • I expect all students to keep handouts and notes in a central location for my class; I “strongly suggest” that students maintain binders with divided sections for our class.
    • You are free to label your own divider sections, should you decide to make them.
    • We will discuss binder divisions in class.

If you have any questions, comment on this post or email me!

Hey Kiddos–

I know that you are hearing words of caution left and right from adults now that you have and are getting your licenses, but I need to add my own words, too.  My mom–yes, teachers have moms, too–just forwarded me an email.  It has information and a link to a short news video entitled “Are Your Tires Safe?”  Basically, ABC went undercover and found numerous tire dealers selling tires that they claimed were new but were actually old.  Tires that are older than six (6) years old are a major hazard and can literally disintegrate, not just “blow out.”  If you want to watch the video and learn how to recognize whether these tires are the real deal or not on your own, follow this link: http://abcnews.go.com/Video/playerIndex?id=4826897

Sometimes, I come across a website and just think “Wow. You folks would love that.” Unfortunately, there’s not always time to show you all of the neat things that I would love to. As such, I will relate them here and hope that you explore on your own!
