Right now, ninth and tenth graders are about halfway through their nonfiction units.  We also continue to work on vocabulary.

By the end of February, we will begin to work on the research paper–for real this time!  For those of you who weren’t aware, we did START our research paper unit a few weeks ago.  However, because of some changes in the schedule for DCAS, we had to halt just after taking our initial notes.   If you’re in ninth grade, remember that you need to choose a topic for an informative paper.  You may select a famous invention, famous person from history, or famous event in history.  In your paper, you must show the significance or contribution of your topic to modern-day society.  Tenth graders: you need to select a social issue and take a stance on your issue that can be supported by well-constructed, factual, logical arguments.

If you have any questions, feel free to email me or call at the school!  :)

As autumn progresses, so do we!  We’ve completed the first marking period, and along with it our units in poetry and short stories.  In the second marking period, we will tackle drama.  Sophomores are working with A Raisin in the Sun and The Tragedy of Julius Caesar; freshmen are working with The Miracle Worker and The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet.  Additionally, to help ensure we are prepared for DCAS while gaining a deeper grasp of our world, we will integrate nonfiction and media pieces that relate to the plays we read.  Our ongoing work with SAT vocabulary and multiple learning strategies continues!  Finally–drumroll, please–our blogging is fully underway.  We’ve all had the chance to practice with the Common Blog a few times, and now we’re blogging about the specific books we are reading.  Best of all, students can now submit their own questions for themselves and their classmates to tackle.  See below for pictures of the fun!

Hey Kiddos,

We all love the beach, but these links might help to keep you and your family safe from the very thing you used to protect yourselves in the first place.

Read and beware!
